Don your lederhosen! Oktoberfest is coming

Oktoberfest - A History and biers, beirs, biers!

The official Oktoberfest celebration takes place in Munich, Bavaria, a yearly festival that draws in more than six million people. No matter where it is celebrated there are a few staples: Oompah bands, bratwurst, and big, big steins of beer….and we’re bringing all of this to Hippo. We’ll have the best of the wurst, the Oompah bands with most oomph, steins and good times!

Oktoberfest kicked off way back in 1810. It originally took place in October, hence the name, but as it grew it was prolonged, it was moved earlier in the season, which allowed for better weather and a more enjoyable time for festival-goers. Now the Munich Oktoberfest takes place from mid-September with the last weekend usually in October.  Sticking with tradition, we’re bringing our Oktoberfest to Oktober.

Our special Oktoberfest biers
We’re bringing the best of Bavarian beers to Hippo for 2 weeks only. Get your steins at the ready because once they’re gone, they’re gone!

Erdinger Weisse ABV: 5.3 %
Notes: A wheat beer for those who love outstanding wheat beer flavour the undisputed classic in the Erdinger product range. Brewed according to a traditional recipe and in strict accordance with the Bavarian Purity Law, the beer is still bottle-fermented in the traditional way taking three to four weeks to mature

Paulaner Oktoberfest ABV: 6%
Notes: A distinguishing feature from other festival beers is the particular harmony of balance between the sweeter taste of malt and that of the hops. The initial mild taste followed by a stronger note, invites you to take a second taste. By tradition it is also slightly stronger than a normal lager, but the high grade of fermentation makes it particularly easy to drink

Orbit Brewery-Neu Altibier ABV: 4.7%
Notes: Pours a deep amber colour with beautiful reddish hues. Strong malt aroma, nutty and slightly toasty, spicy hops. More malt on the palate, bready, full bodied but dry. Great lingering bitterness. A Düsseldorf original.

Meantime Fest bier ABV:5.6%
Notes: long matured, unfiltered and brewed with authentic Bavarian yeast this deep golden lager has full bodied malt flavour, which is balanced by German noble hops gives a long clean finish
